NEWS!

Effective 7/17/08 The Flooring Mill has been purchased by Vermont Hardwoods of Chester, VT. Vermont Hardwoods has been a behind-the-scenes part of TFM since it's inception, providing storage and doing almost all of the milling for TFM orders. This transition has come about as Peter Heyniger, the originator of TFM, has found the business growing beyond his comfort zone. Since Vermont Hardwoods already had the infrastructure in place to accommodate the business and was familiar with not only the attention to detail so important to Peter, but also the process and even many of the customers, this seemed to be almost natural.

Vermont Hardwoods has been making flooring since 1981, but Peter had used The Flooring Mill to establish products, standards and processes that seem to really fit with the needs of both contractors and homeowners. This successful partnership has blossomed over the last several years and now that they are firmly joined we are confident that they will only continue to improve.

Solid Wood Flooring

The Flooring Mill at Vermont Hardwoods offers a complete range of both Hardwood and White Pine solid wood flooring. See below for common details, and click the links at the left for specifics of each type.

We make the Difference

Each order is treated with utmost care. Vermont Hardwoods flooring is made to your order. Our operators are an integrated part of our quality control, and tolerances exceed the industry standard. Vermont Hardwoods is the flooring choice of professionals. The combination of high tolerance machining and long plank lengths ensure ease of installation and finishing.

The even sheen of a smoothly sanded solid wood floor under your feet is not excelled by any other material. Whether you desire a polyurethane or a hand-rubbed oil finish, your floor will endure for generations.

Factory finished

Pre-finished flooring was developed as a compromise for those who wanted the beauty of a hardwood floor with the ease of installation of tile. As such it should be no surprise that there are shortcomings. You are limited to the choice of finishes the manufacturer decides to offer, and most Pre-finished flooring is made with a v-groove to hide inconsistencies in milling. No doubt about it, even the smallest v-groove is a haven for dust, dirt & spills. Pre-finished flooring without a v-groove leaves raised edges which eventually will chip or splinter off. Difficult at best to sand and refinish, or repair when worn.

Composite/Laminate

These floorings are products of our "disposable" generation. They utilize lower cost materials, attempting to imitate our natural hardwood flooring. All are dependant on various glues, epoxies or chemicals which are not only harmful to the environment in their manufacture, but will continue to outgas in your home for months and years to come. The thin surface of these products dictate by design that once worn through they must be replaced. Laminates which rely on printed patterns, even when using actual wood samples as the original, cannot duplicate the natural variation and beauty of the real thing.

The way flooring was always done, and continues to be in today's quality home. The only way to attain the ultimate wood floor is to finish it in place. Minimal sanding after installation produces a floor which is smooth and even from wall to wall. There are no grooves or board edges to catch dirt, spills etc. Cleanups are easy. You select finish to match any decor or lifestyle. Local, renewable resource. As public awareness of our environment grows, your investment in an ecologically sound product will compound.

Please Note: Natural wood flooring varies in color, hue and grain from tree to tree, and even from one end of a plank to the other. These attributes are further enhanced by the type of finish applied and the natural aging process.

The Experience of a Lifetime

Vermont Hardwoods has been providing quality unfinished flooring to home owners and contractors since 1981. There is no substitute for experience, proper facilities & equipment; we are sure you will agree once you have experienced Vermont Hardwoods flooring.
